On Tuesday, the Wall Street Journal reported that disgraced Democratic representative Anthony Weiner may face child pornography charges over sexually explicit exchanges he allegedly had with a 15-year-old girl, according to people familiar with the matter.

According to the WSJ:

In recent weeks, according to some of the people familiar with the matter, attorneys for Mr. Weiner have had discussions with federal prosecutors in Manhattan in hopes of dissuading them from bringing charges, or at least from bringing the most serious one: production of child pornography, which carries a 15-year mandatory minimum prison sentence upon conviction.

The New York Post added:

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Weiner has been under investigation since a report last year revealed that he had exchanged lewd messages with an underage girl in North Carolina.

His lawyers have been meeting with Manhattan federal prosecutors in a bid to minimize his potential punishment, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.

The horndog Democrat — who after being forced to resign his House seat in a sexting scandal, derailed a 2013 comeback campaign for mayor by sending lewd texts under the pseudonym “Carlos Danger” — could be charged with production of kiddie porn for allegedly soliciting explicit photos of the teen, sources said.

According to the Post, he could face up to 30 years in prison if convicted.

The Post further said that other charges under consideration include receipt of child pornography, which carries a five-year mandatory minimum, and possession of child pornography, which doesn’t have a mandatory minimum sentence.

In 2011, the New York Democrat was forced to resign from Congress after tweeting a crotch shot he initially tried to blame on hackers.
